Helideck safety standards a priority in offshore oil and gas exploration
Flight Safety Helideck Certification Pty Ltd, an associate company of the long term established Lloyds Register ISO 9001:2008 Certified aviation safety audit and risk management company - Flight Safety Pty Ltd, takes great pleasure in announcing that they have entered into a long term contract with the Aberdeen-based Helideck Certification Agency (HCA) - a Scottish company that inspects and certifies helicopter landing areas. The HCA is responsible for the inspection and certification of all helidecks on oil-related offshore vessels and installations operating in UK and Norwegian waters – over 700 in total.
The alliance forged will see the HCA enter the Australian and south-east Asia offshore markets for the first time and will see its international expertise deployed across Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Alex Knight the GM of the HCA (Helideck Certification Agency) in Aberdeen is coming out for the inaugural Australian Offshore Helideck Technical Committee meeting being held at Bristow Helicopters Australia Head Office on the 8th November 2010. The HCA is a 50/50 joint venture holding between Bristow and CHC Global.
The technical group will include the Chief Pilots/Training captains of the participating members - Bristow, HNZCougar, including the HCA and Flight Safety Helideck Certification. Two leading Helicopter FOI’s (Harold Carter/Team Leader National Helicopter Office and Dale South/Senior Standards Officer (FOI) - Rotary Wing from the Brisbane office will be involved, as will a representation from the Perth office - Des Byfield, Acting Manager CASA Operations Western Region (Perth Office), Bill Tucker, Chris Keating also from the Perth office and Matthew Windebank - CASA's Aerodrome Standards Engineer.
This will be followed by a presentation from Alex Knight to all interested Oil & Gas parties on the 9th November at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre from 1000-1200.
This is a unique opportunity as Alex will provide an overview of the HCA/Aberdeen North Sea and Norwegian operations and the link into the Flight Safety Helideck Certification Australian involvement; he will be available to answer any of the questions that might arise.
The exercise over the 8th and the 9th is viewed as a step closer to achieving a fully integrated system with the UKCAA/HCA backed by CASA that equates to North Sea safety oversight activities.
